The Making Of A 3D Printed IOM

If an RG65 and a Footy could be 3d printed why not a bit bigger yacht like an IOM.

This was fun because I understood 3d printing a lot better by now and had decided to do it in two steps.

A. Build a design by Bill Hagerup, sail it and make all the mistakes.

B. Feed that back to Bill and make the next one with finer detail.

Presenting the prototypes:

  1. “Green Magic”
  2. “Mr No Name”

1. “Green Magic”

I will be describing the whole project in much more detail in a future article, so this will basically be a “teaser” with some images of the prototype being built and then the surprisingly nice boat on the water.

This is now retired and “Mr No Name’ is on the way

2. “Mr No Name”

This one is coming with all the latest hull and build technologies that have been developed in this amazing project.

This will have Craig Smith’s ultra stiff “Fast Fins” and bulb.
